Days of Wonder has officially announced their newest title, Battle of Hoth, a fast-paced Star Wars-themed miniatures game set during one of the most iconic battles in sci-fi history. If you’ve played Memoir ’44, this is going to sound very familiar—and that’s a good thing.

What We Know So Far

Battle of Hoth uses the beloved Commands & Colors system, where players activate units using command cards, making each round full of tense decisions and exciting skirmishes. The game includes 17 different scenarios to recreate various key moments from the Hoth conflict.

For players looking to go deeper, you’ll also have the option to use leader cards that bring six iconic Star Wars characters into the battle for tactical bonuses. There’s even a campaign mode with multi-scenario progression where the outcome of one battle affects the next.

It supports 2 to 4 players, although details on how 4-player gameplay works are still unclear—possibly requiring a second set?

Why I’m Hyped

This sounds like a dream come true for fans of both Star Wars and Days of Wonder. Their production quality is always top-notch, with easy-to-learn rulebooks, clear player aids, and clever gameplay. If this game hits the table as well as it sounds, we could be looking at the start of an entire Star Wars battle series, with expansions for Endor, the Death Star, or even battles from the prequels.

I’m personally hoping this becomes a full line of tactical Star Wars battles with unique maps, vehicles, units, and asymmetric powers. And with names like Ben Carre, Tony Foti, and Clément Masson involved, I have high hopes for the visual and mechanical polish.

Days of Wonder hasn’t announced a release date yet, but I’ll be watching this one closely. Check out the BGG page here.
