Digital board games are booming — making it easier than ever to enjoy your favorite titles solo or remotely with friends. Steam and other platforms are seeing a wave of exciting new releases, expansions, and announcements, giving us more options to game whenever and wherever. Today, we’re spotlighting some recent and upcoming digital board games you should watch for — plus a few titles we’re still hoping to see make the jump to digital.
Coming Soon or Recently Released on Steam
Cascadia — Released February 2025

The peaceful tile-laying and puzzle strategy game Cascadia finally arrived on Steam earlier this year, bringing its serene nature-themed gameplay to digital with smooth controls and a relaxing solo mode. Whether you’re a fan of the physical game or new to it, the digital version makes it easy to dive in anytime.
Clank! Sunken Treasures DLC — Released May 21, 2025

The Clank! digital adaptation received its exciting Sunken Treasures DLC, adding new modules and challenges for fans to explore. If you’ve enjoyed deck-building adventures on your PC or tablet, this latest update will keep your runs fresh and engaging.
Codenames — Coming Soon to Steam

Having launched on mobile last year, Codenames is gearing up for its Steam debut. We saw a demo at Gen Con 2024, and it promises to capture the social deduction fun of the physical game with slick UI and easy online multiplayer.
Dice Throne Digital — Coming to Kickstarter Soon

The fast-paced, battling dice game Dice Throne is set to launch a Kickstarter campaign soon for its digital version. Fans can look forward to strategic dice battles with vivid animations and both solo and multiplayer modes.
Keep the Heroes Out — Expected 2025 on Steam

This upcoming co-op game lets you play as the monsters defending a dungeon against invading heroes who try to loot its treasures. It focuses on card play and features asymmetric monster powers, giving each player a unique experience as they team up to stop the heroes. Look for its Steam release in 2025 with a demo out now.
Games We’re Still Hoping to See Digitized
While these digital adaptations are exciting, there are still some great physical games we hope to see on digital platforms soon:
- Cascadia expansions — Now that the base game is out digitally, we’d love to see the expansions follow soon.
- Heat: Pedal to the Metal — Already available on Board Game Arena, but an official Steam release would bring it to a wider audience and likely deliver smoother online play.
- Quacks of Quedlinburg — A perfect fit for digital adaptation with its push-your-luck and bag-building mechanics. (Check out my Quacks of Quedlinburg review if you want to learn more about the game!)
- Fromage — The rotating board mechanic and multiple scoring paths would make a fascinating digital experience.
Final Thoughts
Digital board game adaptations are becoming a vital way to enjoy our favorite titles between in-person sessions or when solo gaming is the only option. Whether you prefer the tactile feel of the physical game or the convenience of digital, there’s no denying the benefits both formats bring.
