A new strategy game is on the horizon, and it’s coming from one of the biggest names in modern board gaming. Simone Luciani, known for designing games like Tzolk’in, Grand Austria Hotel, Lorenzo il Magnifico, and Barrage, has teamed up with Roberto Pellei to bring us Echoes of Time. This game is set to debut at Essen and promises a unique blend of card play and time manipulation.
A World of Power and Time

In Echoes of Time, four factions control different aspects of a vast, untouched world:
- The ocean depths with their dark abysses
- The windy meadows and protected forests of the gentle hills
- The vast and endless night skies
- The mysterious underground tunnels
These factions seek control over hidden sources of power, which allow them to manipulate time itself. Players will compete to assemble the strongest fellowship of characters from across these factions in order to seize control.
The Sliding Tile System

One of the most intriguing mechanics in Echoes of Time is its sliding tile system, which governs the timing of card activations. While details are still emerging, this system appears to regulate how long it takes for cards to become usable and how their effects are triggered over time. Combined with the 100+ unique cards, this mechanic should create a dynamic and evolving strategy each game.
A Game to Watch
With Luciani’s track record of deep, medium-to-heavy Euro-style games, Echoes of Time is sure to attract fans of strategic planning and long-term decision-making. If you enjoy card play with unique mechanics and a strong thematic foundation, this could be a must-have.
We’ll keep an eye on Echoes of Time as more details emerge ahead of its Essen release—stay tuned!
